Especially under overcast conditions, when the light intensity is constantly changing, an extremely fast MPPT controller improves energy yield by up to 30% compared to PWM charge controllers and by up to 10% compared to slower MPPT controllers.
Load output
You can prevent the battery from being discharged too deeply by connecting all loads to the load output. The load output disconnects the loads when the battery has been discharged to a predefined voltage level. Alternatively, an algorithm for intelligent battery management can be selected: see Battery Life. The load output is short-circuit proof. Some loads (inverters in particular) are best connected directly to the battery. The inverter remote control is best connected to the load output. A special interface cable may be required, please refer to the manual.
Battery Life: intelligent battery management
If the solar charge controller is not able to charge the battery to its full capacity within a day, the battery status will constantly cycle between "partially charged" and "end of discharge". This mode of operation (no regular full charging) will damage a lead-acid battery within a few weeks or months.
The Battery Life algorithm monitors the battery's state of charge and, if necessary, increases the load disconnection threshold day by day (i.e. the load is disconnected earlier) until the energy harvested is sufficient to charge the battery to nearly 100%. From this point, the load disconnection threshold is modulated so that the charge is near 100% approximately once a week.
